Gettysburg Dedication Day Events

November 19 marks the anniversary of the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg. The Gettysburg National Cemetery is famous throughout the world today as the site of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, delivered at the cemetery's dedication ceremonies four and a half months after the battle. Numerous events take place each year to commemorate this monumental anniversary.

 Dedication Day Ceremony - November 19

Dedication Day 2023 will commemorate the 160th anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
Full event details, including invited speakers and inclement weather protocols, can be found on the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania website. FREE.

This event is sponsored by Gettysburg National Military Park, the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, the Gettysburg Foundation, and Gettysburg College.

 

David Wills House - November 17-19

The home of Gettysburg attorney David Wills was the center of the immense clean-up process after the Battle of Gettysburg and where President Lincoln put the finishing touches on his Gettysburg Address. The David Wills House will be open November 17-19. FREE.

1 pm to 5 pm

 


Remembrance Day Parade - November 18

An annual parade of Civil War living history groups is held in conjunction with the Gettysburg Address anniversary. The parade will line up on Middle Street and then proceed to Baltimore Street and then turn onto Steinwehr Avenue. FREE.

This event is sponsored by the Sons of Veterans Reserve, the Military Department of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.


Numerous roads will be closed during this time.

 

Remembrance Day Illumination - November 18


This solemn commemoration features a luminary candle on each of the 3,512 Civil War soldier’s graves. Names of the fallen soldiers will be read throughout the evening. FREE.

5:30 pm to 9 pm.

This event is sponsored by the Gettysburg Foundation.
