Adams & York County Memorial Day Ceremonies and Parades

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer and a time to honor the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Here are a few family-friendly events you won't want to miss this Memorial weekend! 

Adams County

Gettysburg Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony


The Gettysburg Joint Veterans Memorial Day Commission has announced the 157th Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, will take place Monday, May 27, 2024. In remembrance and honor of the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country, the Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Gettysburg is one of the oldest continuing ceremonies in our nation. Ceremonies in the past have featured keynote speakers, such as past presidents of the United States and Pennsylvania governors.

The Memorial Day parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Lefever Street in downtown Gettysburg, head northeast to East Middle Street, turn west on East Middle Street and South on Baltimore Street to Gettysburg National Cemetery

The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at the Rostrum in Gettysburg National Cemetery. The Color Guard from the USS Gettysburg (CG 64) will serve as the color guard. The Keynote Speaker will be Major General David C. Hill, Commandant of the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Notable dignitaries to be present are Captain Justin R. Hodges, Commanding Officer of the USS Gettysburg (CG-64) and Kathy and Larry Altoff who will serve as the Honorary Grand Marshalls of the parade.

York County 

Dallastown Memorial Day Parade 

Monday, May 27 from 9am to 10:30am

The Dallastown American Legion Post 605 will host the annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 9am and begins on E Main St at Park St. It continues west on Main St to the end of town at Union Cemetary. At that time, there will be a Memorial Day Ceremony honoring all of our soldiers.


Dillsburg Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony 

May 27 the parade leaves VFW parking lot at 11:00 and has a flag-raising ceremony at Dillsburg Fire station in route to Dillsburg Cemetary.  There will be a Memorial Day ceremony consisting of guest speakers and songs played by the Northern High School band at the conclusion of the parade at Dillsburg Cemetery. 


East Prospect Borough Memorial Day Parade and Fireworks

Join us on May 26 at 4pm as we come together to honor and remember the courageous servicemen and women who have selflessly fought to protect our beloved country and preserve our freedom at the annual Memorial Day Parade. Before the parade begins, make sure to come and indulge in some delicious treats from the food trucks that will be setting up nearby. We have a fantastic lineup of culinary delights, including Premium Shaved Ice, G's Concessions, Savory's Funnel Cakes, and Tri-county BBQ. And that's not all! The fire company has organized some exciting activities for everyone to enjoy too   We will end the festivities with a breathtaking fireworks display at dusk on the ball field. 


Etters Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 27th  10:00 am. the parade will start at Parkville Bible Church, 850 Whisler Road, then travel to York Haven, Paddletown R,oad and end at  St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 355 Church Road. After the parade, a service will be held at the Paddletown Cemetery. 


Flags for Heroes & Dedication Ceremony

Celebrate and honor those who protect us and have made our country free by joining the Southern York County Rotary & the Lions Club for the  7th Annual Flag for Heroes flags display at New Freedom Green. 

Flags will be displayed May 15 – May 28, 2024

Glen Rock Memorial Day Ceremony

The Glen Rock  Memorial Day ceremony will take place on May 27, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery on Hanover Street at 11:00 am.
In case of rain, the service will be at Zion Lutheran Church 49 Hanover St, Glen Rock.
The public is invited to the Austin L Grove Post 403 following the service for refreshments.


Hanover Memorial Day Parade 

The Annual Memorial Parade parade will begin at 8:30 AM on Monday, May 27. 

The parade will form at 7:30 AM on portions of Carlisle Street, between Chestnut Street and Library Place, continuing along Carlisle Street (route 94) through Center Square and on Baltimore Street to Mount Olivet Cemetery where a service will be held at the platform 

near The Soldier's Monument.


New Freedom Memorial Day Ceremony

Join us at Veterans Park ( The Coop Baseball Field) May 27 at 11:00am as we come together to honor our courageous servicemen and women. 


Red Lion Memorial Day Parade

There will be a parade on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th starting at 10:30am at Red Lion High School. The parade route will be from Horace Mann Avenue to Main Street to West Broadway to South Franklin St to Boundary Avenue to South Charles Street to Fairview Street, ending at Fairmount Park.


Wrightsville Memorial Day Parade

The parade will be held May 27.  Parade starts at 1 pm at  South 2nd St to Seventh Street and ending at Fairview Cemetery. 

There will be a ceremony immediately to follow at the cemetery.


York County Department of Veterans Affairs Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony

Join us for the annual York County Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony at 11:00 am at the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden, 1000 Vander Avenue in York.  The ceremony will honor Specialist Fourth Class James Brent Brown a York native who was deployed to Vietnam, and killed in action.  Vietnam Veteran MAJ (USA-Ret) Donald Androsky will be this years keynote speaker while York County Director of Veterans Affairs Kevin Smyers will be the master of ceremonies, and York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler will lead the wreath-laying ceremony.


Memorial Day Gold Star Memorial 5K

This 5K Run & 9 Mile Tour de Memorials offers three events to choose from on Monda May 27 at 7:30 am- a 5K running race, a non-competitive 5K walk, or 9 mile “Tour the Memorials” event where you can run, ride your bicycle, or walk and pass by every war memorial in York city.
