By Sarah Frane Macaroni Kid Gettysburg-Hanover December 18, 2024

Are you looking to add a unique and exciting twist to your New Year's Eve celebration this year? Look no further than the New Years Tree! This fun alternative to the traditional Christmas tree has been a beloved tradition in our family for over a decade, bringing joy and excitement to our annual New Year's Eve kids sleepover.

Just like decorating a Christmas tree, creating a New Years Tree is a creative and festive endeavor. The only rule? Steer clear of traditional Christmas colors and let your imagination run wild! Here's how you can create your own New Years Tree:

Supplies Needed:

  • Tree
  • Lights
  • Streamers
  • Balloons
  • Noise Makers
  • Party hats
  • Treat bags filled with fun surprises
  • Silly props

There's no right or wrong way to decorate your New Years Tree, but here's a glimpse into how we do ours:

  1. Begin by removing all holiday decorations from the tree, leaving only the twinkling lights to create a magical ambiance.
  2. Fill balloons or treat bags with confetti, prizes, or other surprises, numbering them for a countdown to midnight. Pop one balloon or distribute one treat bag per hour as you count down to the new year.
  3. Add silly props to the tree for impromptu photo opportunities and laughter-filled moments throughout the night.
  4. Deck out your tree with party hats and noise makers, which can be taken off and enjoyed by the kids as the clock strikes midnight.
  5. Complete the look with colorful streamers cascading down the branches, adding a festive touch to your New Years Tree.

By the time midnight rolls around, your New Years Tree will be a whimsical centerpiece of your celebration, ready to be packed away until the next year. And as an added bonus, the kids will have a blast de-decorating the tree, reminiscing about the fun-filled night they had.
