Fifth annual Patriotic event to be held at Gettysburg College

June 28, 2017

This year, celebrate the Fourth of July in Gettysburg as Gettysburg College and Destination Gettysburg host the Fifth Annual Patriotic Pops Concert and Fireworks event, Tuesday, July 4.

The free family-friendly festivity will take place at Gettysburg College’s Science Center lawn. Food, soft drinks, ice cream, local beer, wine, hard cider and kettle corn will once again be available for guests to purchase and enjoy. The event will feature two concerts prior to the fireworks display.

“Gettysburg’s Fourth of July celebration is an exciting event and an excellent way for locals and visitors alike to get out and enjoy the Gettysburg community,” said Norris Flowers, President of Destination Gettysburg. “We hope to see many people taking part in the patriotic celebration.”

The Willys, a Gettysburg-based band that describes its musical style as “interestingly fun, strange and not-so-boring rock ’n roll” will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Gala Pops Orchestra, comprised of professional musicians from the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra and students from Gettysburg College’s Sunderman Conservatory of Music, will follow from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The fireworks display, sponsored by Destination Gettysburg, will be showcased at 9:30 p.m. The fireworks, launched from the southern end of Gettysburg College’s campus, will be visible to guests on the Science Center lawn, as well as Gettysburg National Military Park and the surrounding area.

“We are thrilled to once again light up the sky for the Gettysburg community,” Flowers said.

The Fourth of July celebration caps off a weekend of events and activities commemorating the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, including the annual re-enactment, special tours, and programs as well as living history encampments throughout the community.

The field and concessions open at 6 p.m. Guests are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and/or a picnic. Parking is available on the Gettysburg College campus. The rain date is Wednesday, July 5.

Destination Gettysburg, the official destination marketing organization, markets Gettysburg – Adams County as a premier travel destination, producing a positive economic impact.
