Dinosaurs, Rocks & Meteorites

By Adams County Historical Society at Gettysburg April 14, 2024

Join us for "Dinosaurs, Rocks & Meteorites," a special interactive program geared toward families on Saturday, April 20th at 10:30 a.m.

In 1887, a strange object was discovered by a farmer near Two Taverns. After an investigation, it was discovered to be one of the largest meteorites ever found in the eastern United States. Fifty years later, strange tracks were discovered in slabs of stone at a quarry in northern Adams County. State officials and paleontologists quickly determined that they were created by an early dinosaur from the Triassic period. Join Phil Eberspeaker as he discusses prehistoric times in Adams County, and learn about some of the oldest items in our collection.

This is a free, non-ticketed event.
